Notes | - Tracing by Pierre Margry made ca. 1850 of 1785 ms. copy by St. John de Crevecoeur of original map by Peter Pond; traced from map in the Service Hydrographique (Paris).
- "This extraordinary man [i.e. Peter Pond] has resided 17 years in those countries & from his own discoveries as well as from the reports of Indians, he assures himself of having at last discovered a passage to the N O. Sea. He is gone again to ascertain some important observations. New York, 1 March 1785. The original map being incumbered with great deal of writing, I have thought it best to transcribe it separately with the references marked by y numbers. Copied by St. John de Crevecoeur for his grace of La Rochefoucault."
- Additional ms. copies of Pond's map (original not extant) held by Hudson's Bay Company archives (cf. Winsor), the Library of Congress Kohl collection, the British Musuem Crown collection, and the Ministère des affaires étrangères (Paris). Cf. Wagner, Henry R. Peter Pond (New Haven: Yale University Library, 1955) p. 26-29; Winsor, Justin. The Kohl collection (now in the Library of Congress) (Washington, D.C.: G.P.O., 1904) p. 74 no. 137; Hulbert, A.B.
